After leaving university in the 1990s, I did a couple of office jobs but didn't really find my true passion until I started a course in teaching English as a foreign language. I had no real expectations, but was ready for an adventure and had nothing to lose by trying. Discovering I loved both teaching adults and the rich environment of working with people from other countries, I achieved a top grade.
The first stop on my adventure was Greece; while living and working there, I gained a great understanding of living in another culture, as well as the practical EFL teaching experience I needed.
On returning to the UK, I worked in a residential language school and poured my heart into boosting the language skills of the students on a dynamic campus where spiritual and community life were as key as academic achievement.
The next stage of my adventure, was a trip to Ukraine to take part in practical social action, and returned engaged to our interpreter – hence my surname!
For more than 10 years, my skills were sharpened through teaching ESOL to adults and teenagers in an outstanding local further education college.
However, in 2015 it was time to embark on another adventure and I started Finest English, so with bespoke one-to-one and small group lessons I could develop student-focused, relevant and effective lessons.
I am a native English speaker who started teaching EFL in 1993 and have over 20 years' experience in the EFL/ ESOL profession.
I have taught all levels of ESOL, from non-literate beginners to proficiency.
I have prepared many learners for different exams, but especially for IELTS and Cambridge First and Advanced Examinations.
I also proofread assignments and papers for university students, identifying errors and suggesting corrections. I have helped learners to produce CVs, prepare for interviews and develop text for their websites and social media sites.
